24-Inch
Deck Girder Bridge and Catwalk
The Technical Aspect:
The 24 Inch Deck Girder
bridge: This bridge is a full 24 inches long, is fully
assembled and is fabricated from heavy gauge steel and coated
with a very realistic and durable appearing flat black powder
coated finish to prevent corrosion. The rib & rivet detail
is fantastic; at first glance you would think that this is
some of the new process injection molded plastic.
As soon as you pick it up
you're going to know other wise. This bridge weighs as much or
more than an Aristo Craft SD 45. There are no visible welds or
brazing on this bridge. I was not brave enough but I believe
that I could put my 240 pounds on it and not hurt it. The
bridge is constructed with all of the required cross bracing
and other components found on the 1:1 counter part. These are
neatly fastened to the side girders by the use of tabs, which
are then hidden in the construction.
Each girder consists of two
plates that are held together by the use of a top and bottom
plate that slides on to each side of the girder to form the
top and bottom. This is one of those things that you're going
to look at and ask yourself why you did not think of that. On
top of that the finish is flawless. It really needs some
weathering and streaks of rust and grease to look perfect.

The
Deck Girder Bridge is sold without the catwalk and can
be used this way by simply laying the rail on top of
the girders as is done on short spans by the 1:1
folks. |
The Catwalk: The
Catwalk is highly detailed, UV resistant injection molded
plastic, the deck & catwalk portion features closely
spaced ties in the same North American Pattern used by Aristo
Craft and USA Trains on their track.
It has been engineered so that
the catwalk from either side can be removed. This is an easy
conversion to do as you simply cut off the support for the
catwalk at the area where the tie strips have molded in end
caps for this purpose. Each package contains four six-inch
long tie strips with catwalk attached, 24 snap in handrail
post and 8 twelve-inch handrails.

I guess my love affair with trains started when I was three or
four, steam was king then. I got a Lionel set when I was five, and
have been hooked since. I Moved from 027 in the mid 1950's to HO and
then to N in 1968. I got into Large Scale around 1993; my wife
bought our first large scale set as a joke and is now hooked as much
as I am. Sue and I have been married 30+ years.
